The new School “Bottega di Parma” means to continue the rich and ancient
violin making tradition of the city of Parma, referring, as faithfully as
possible, to the concept of “bottega” (workshop): a master working with
his apprentices.
The course consists therefore essentially of practical workshop lessons
and teaching in those sole subjects which are concerned with the art of
making stringed instruments (drawing, materials knowledge, etc.). This
programme requires a limited number of pupils for each course (12 at most)
to assure optimal teaching and high quality finished products.
The course lasts two years (from October to June) for a total of 1200
teaching hours.
The instruction alternates between a teaching week and a week of
individual work to allow pupils to check autonomously the acquired
knowledge.
During the teaching week, lessons take place from Monday until Friday (7
hours a day), according to the following schedule:
from 9.30 until 13.00 and from 14.00 until 17.30, for a total of 35 hours
a week. During the week of individual work the teacher is always available
in the school to give advice to pupils and look after their job.
The school provides all stuff and tools needed
for the construction of the instruments during the school workshop hours.
Each pupil has the possibility, if so intentioned, to buy, after booking,
and always through the school, tools and stuff to work at home.
